Battle of the Somme:
1,219,201 casualties
Took place from July 1st all the way through November, and used both sides of the Somme River in France. The Allies won, but lost about 623,900 soldiers. The allies also lost 782 airplanes and 100 tanks. The Germans only lost about 600,000. British had a great offense of artillery but in just the first day the British lost 19,420. The Allies pushed the Germans back 40 miles and eventually won in 1918.
The Hundred Days Offense
1,855,369 total casualties
Took place in the last years of WWI. This was one of the allies biggest victories over the Germans. Even though the allies beat the Germans they lost over 1 million soldiers. 127,000 of them were Americans.
